Sunglint on the Alabama River

.In this particular June 26, 2023, picture drawn from the International Spaceport station, direct sunlight shines off the soft waters of the Alabama Stream in a sensation known as sunglint. When capturing on film Earth, rocketeers usually benefit from sunglint's inclination to raise the comparison between water surfaces and surrounding land areas. In the 1960s, the Alabama Stream was clogged, creating Dannelly Tank (the sizable shining region at center left). Development of the dam also raised water levels upriver. This led to flooding at a number of points along the stream. These flooded zones are actually normal of floodplains-- the poor, flat regions promptly close to much larger waterways. In this particular image, disaster area appear as rough, bright shapes prolonging off of the river, like at Gee's Bend (facility base).Text Debt: Justin Wilkinson.Photo Credit Score: NASA/Woody Hoburg.
